Alcohol Abuse Recovery

Not many will easily admit to alcohol abuse, much more the need for alcohol abuse recovery. There is still a social stigma attached to alcohol abuse recovery, regardless of its necessity in abuse cases.

Here are some signs that one might need alcohol abuse recovery: 1. A woman who drinks more than seven drinks a week or more than three drinks per occasion is medically considered as “drinking too much.” A woman is considered a heavy drinker if she drinks more than three drinks every day or more than 21 drinks per week. 2. A man who drinks more than fourteen drinks a week or more than four per occasion is medically considered as “drinking too much.” He is considered to be drinking too much if he drinks more than five drinks every day or more 35 drinks per week. 3. If people more than 65 years old drinks more than seven drinks a week or more than three per occasion.

A drink is defined as a 12-ounce bottle of beer, a 5-ounce glass of wine or a 1.5-ounce of hard liquor.

Drinking at these levels should already prompt one to review their reasons for drinking. Drinking is already considered a habit – a bad habit, at that – if it is done regularly to achieve sleep or some relaxation, to avoid unpleasant thoughts, or to socialize.

Likewise, if one has felt the need to sneak in drinks whenever they can, then maybe they have a drinking problem and need to consider alcohol abuse recovery. Once can go to a doctor or specialist for this. Or, they can join a self-help support group.
